Look at YOU, Piper Lou!

I was so excited today when my newest book arrived from Amazon! I couldn't wait to read it- I had heard so much about it! Unlike most of my Amazon purchases, this book was a picture book, one that I could read in one sitting.  So you might be wondering why would a technology coach buy a children's book? That is an easy answer- This book was written and illustrated by my good friend, Jillian DuBois. This is not Jillian's first book. Jillian first published Liv's Seashells and then collaborated with Darrin Peppard to write A Road to Awesome for Kids. But this book is special in its own right. Jillian wrote, illustrated AND published this book under her own name and publishing company, Imparted Joy LLC.

A Great Story on So Many Levels

In this touching story, Jillian shares Piper Lou's story. Piper Lou is a sweet dog who has been abandoned by her owners. Given the choices of staying or going, Piper Lou chooses to leave in the pursuit of finding her forever home.  She is not sure where she is going, but she trusts her journey. She meets many others along the way before she meets her new family. When she meets them, she knows she is safe and loved.

I loved this story on so many levels. To begin with, I too have adopted two rescue dogs in my lifetime. Before this, I didn't even know that I liked dogs- in fact, I thought I didn't like them. Our first adopted dog came to us towards the end of his life. He was a close friend's dog and as they prepared to move to Australia, we took him in. His name was Thunder and he quickly found his way into my heart and became our family dog. When he passed away, our whole family was so sad. But a couple of months later, a new dog found her way into our hearts. Our current dog's name is Brisket (pictured to the right) and we love her so. Adopting rescue dogs is something that remains close to my heart always.

But this story also spoke to me on a deeper level.   When Piper Lou was left  alone, she had a choice to make. She could stay where she was and hope that her owners would come back or she could move forward and search for her forever home. This really resonated with me. How many of us find ourselves needing to make similar decisions each and every day.

Should you stay with what you know- the safe route OR

Should you dare to go down a new path in hopes of something better?

Piper Lou, like all of us, had a choice to make. She trusted in her goal of finding her forever family and ventured to places that she had never been before. It was scary and uncertain, but she didn't give up. She knew what was on her heart and went for it. Like Piper Lou, my friend, Jillian, also inspires me. She inspires me daily as she ventures to places that she has never been before and leads her life with joy and purpose. Please check out her newest book.  It is truly a beautiful story that will inspire you too.
